Discover The Charles

The first time I walked into The Charles, tucked at 1632 Market Center Blvd, Dallas, TX 75207, United States, I immediately understood why so many Dallas locals speak about it with a kind of reverence. The Design District isn’t short on stylish dining spots, yet this one feels different. There’s a confident blend of Italian soul and Texas swagger, and you notice it right away-from the dim lighting to the hum of conversation around the bar.

I’ve dined here multiple times, both for casual dinners and for a friend’s anniversary celebration, and each visit has felt carefully orchestrated. The menu leans heavily into Italian-inspired cuisine, but it never feels predictable. Dishes like handmade pasta, wood-fired meats, and fresh seafood reflect a commitment to quality sourcing. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners consistently rank freshness and ingredient transparency as top priorities when choosing where to eat. You can taste that philosophy here. The pasta has that distinct texture that only comes from proper kneading and resting; the sauces cling perfectly, which tells me they’re emulsified thoughtfully rather than rushed.

One evening, I ordered the cacio e pepe alongside a perfectly grilled steak. It’s a simple Roman classic on paper, yet executing it requires technical precision. The sauce depends on starchy pasta water and high-quality Pecorino Romano to create that silky coating. When done wrong, it clumps. Here, it was smooth and balanced, proof that the kitchen understands traditional technique. That level of detail reflects what chefs trained in European culinary systems often emphasize: process matters as much as ingredients.

The atmosphere deserves its own spotlight. Reviews often describe the interior as modern Italian glamour, and that phrase fits. Velvet seating, warm wood accents, and a lively open kitchen create a setting that feels upscale without being stiff. I’ve noticed that the staff moves with intention-servers are knowledgeable about the wine list and quick to offer pairing suggestions. During my last visit, our server recommended a Tuscan red that complemented the richness of the short rib beautifully. It’s small touches like that which elevate a meal from good to memorable.

Speaking of wine, the beverage program is thoughtfully curated. Italian varietals dominate, but you’ll also find California and French selections. The sommelier once explained how they rotate bottles seasonally to align with menu updates. That kind of dynamic planning reflects industry best practices; organizations like the Court of Master Sommeliers emphasize thoughtful pairing to enhance flavor perception. You feel that attention here, especially when pairing seafood dishes with crisp whites that cut through buttery sauces.

Location plays a role in its popularity too. Being in Dallas’ Design District means it attracts a mix of creatives, business professionals, and out-of-town visitors. The parking situation is generally manageable, though on weekends it fills up quickly. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for Friday and Saturday nights. Walk-ins might get lucky at the bar, but peak hours can mean a wait.

From a value standpoint, it sits firmly in the upscale category. Prices reflect the quality of ingredients and the ambiance. Still, when you factor in portion size, presentation, and service consistency, the experience justifies the spend. In my professional work analyzing hospitality trends, I’ve seen that guests are more willing to pay premium prices when service and atmosphere align seamlessly. That’s exactly what happens here.

Customer reviews across major dining platforms consistently highlight three themes: attentive service, standout pasta, and an energetic yet intimate vibe. While no restaurant is perfect-occasional delays during peak hours have been mentioned-the management appears responsive, which builds trust. Transparency and responsiveness are key indicators of a restaurant that plans to stay relevant.

All in all, whether you’re planning a date night, a celebratory dinner, or simply exploring top restaurants in Dallas, this spot delivers a polished yet approachable experience. Between the carefully crafted menu, knowledgeable staff, and stylish setting, it manages to balance comfort with sophistication in a way that keeps people coming back.

  • 10 stars absolutely the food was amazing. The service was amazing for a romantic evening or a fun birthday dinner. It was me, my husband and my sister celebrating our birthday!

  • Wow. This place is INCREDIBLE! My boyfriend and I came here for a date night, and from the minute we walked through the door…actually the minute we arrived at the valet…we felt like the most important people in the world! We arrived a little bit early for our reservation. Didn’t phase them! They took us straight back to the speakeasy where we enjoyed amazing drinks. I got the fireside orchard (I don’t even like whiskey and this was bomb.com!) and he got the sunset in sienna. Delicious!!! Next, we were escorted to our table where the magic continued. Everyone was so attentive, and already knew we were celebrating our anniversary, even though they were not the ones serving us! I even got up at one point to go to the restroom and one of the waiters (who was not our waiter) knew my name. Also, when my boyfriend went to the bathroom they came over within probably 15 seconds to fold his napkin. It felt like we were in a movie! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious but I must say the olive oil cake and chocolate budino were the best bites of the night. We are dessert people!!! If you’re visiting, make sure to order them BOTH :) and ask for Antonio!! He was the most incredible waiter. So kind, hospitable, and genuine. I felt like he treated us like guests of honor and we are just two normal people! Thank you all for a great evening. We will definitely be back! And we can’t wait to try the other Duro Hospitality concepts as well.

  • Great for a date night or just girls night! It’s my 2nd time coming back and came back to celebrate 2 friend’s birthday! They both loved the atmosphere and food! The food portions are on the smaller side but it was just enough for the ladies. We order couple dishes to share. It’s very intimate and not too loud. Everyone was very friendly!

  • Went to The Charles with my girlfriends for a girl’s night out. We ordered the mushrooms, octopus, veal ragu cappeloni, spicy creste de gallo and grilled butternut squash bucatini. We had the olive oil cake (absolutely a must try) and the dark chocolate bundino. We had the wine sommelier recommend a delicious bottle of wine for our table and she was absolutely outstanding. Our server was also wonderful. My reason for four stars is for the food temperature. The taste of everything was great, but every dish came out room temperature at best. The bucatini was cool, which the server took back and comped us for. Every dish we had, however, was not served hot. That was pretty disappointing for the price we paid. We appreciated them removing it from the bill, but at the end of the day each dish turned out underwhelming due to the temperature.

  • Restaurant week menu tastes great. Portion size is smaller than regular menu but just right for us because we don't want too much food. They offered an extra appetizer for my celebration. The cheese and olive gift is also really yummy. All in all, loved the food.

  • Went to The Charles in Dallas on a Friday night with a couple friends — and honestly, it lived up to the hype. Every dish was a 10/10 perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The staff was on point the entire night, super attentive and detail-oriented without ever feeling overbearing. Only thing I’d note: it gets REALLY loud in there, especially on a weekend. So if you’re coming for conversation, maybe pick a weekday

  • BEST restaurant I’ve ever been to. My boyfriend made a reservation here for our 3-year anniversary, and everything was perfect. When he booked online, he requested a booth in the far corner, and they actually honored it — which was SO nice. I was the most comfortable I’ve ever felt while dining out, and the atmosphere was romantic and beautiful. Me and my boyfriend are HUGE foodies — we always rate and talk through every bite when we eat — and we LOVED eating here. Everything we tried had us looking at each other in astonishment, so we really look forward to trying the full course meal for two next time we comeback. Our server was amazing too. He was professional yet still super friendly. We look on the younger side, so I was worried we might feel out of place, but he treated us with complete respect and made us feel totally welcome. He even surprised us with a complimentary olive oil cake for our anniversary — it tasted incredible and came with a candle. We ordered the ribeye steak, and every bite was savory, juicy, and honestly felt like something out of a gourmet cooking show. Maybe I’m glazing a bit, but it was our first time going to a restaurant this nice, and I’m SO glad we chose The Charles. I hope to come here every year haha! 20/10 experience. Completely unforgettable.

  • Came to celebrate my birthday and my party had a good time! The restaurant offers valet and it’s very lively once you step inside. We were able to wait at the bar until our table was ready and there I ordered a hibis-kiss. The drink was ok but very citrus forward so I settled on wine for my drink of choice the remainder of the night. We ordered appetizers of wood fired oysters and we did enjoy them. For mains, I ordered the spicy creste di gallo (recommended by our server) but unfortunately it was citrus heavy. My friend also ordered this (vegan) and even after adding plain red sauce - the citrus was still overpowering. We did try another dish but that was citrus forward as well (maybe it’s their thing?). My friend did enjoy her salmon dish, though! We ordered sides of mushrooms and okra and these were great! I do look forward to returning to try out their meat options as I’m sure they’ll be good and you can’t beat the customer service here as it was out of this world!
